The club DVSC was established in 1902 by the local workers of the national railway company in Hungary's second largest city, Debrecen. The woman handball team was formed in 1948.
The name and abbreviation DVSC (Debreceni Vasutas Sport Club) means literally "Railway Workers' Sport Club of Debrecen". Although there's no contact to the railway any more, the name was kept for historical reasons. (The origin of the club's present nickname "Loki" is this historical background and the word "locomotive".)
The FÓRUM, the club's main supporter is a local shopping center, thus the name DVSC-Fórum.
Among several successes of DVSC there are EHF Cup wins (1995 and 1996), CWC silver medals (1990 and 1992), Hungarian championship wins (1955 and 1987), Hungarian cup wins (1985, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991), etc.
In the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 seasons DVSC was the silver medallist in the Hungarian championship.
